Soros Groups Investigation Request Sent to Justice Department
The Soros groups investigation request was submitted Thursday by Rep. Buddy Carter, a Republican from Georgia. The lawmaker asked federal officials to launch an immediate investigation.
Carter addressed his letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi. He requested a “comprehensive and immediate” probe into the activities of Soros-funded organizations.
The request specifically mentions the Open Society Foundations and related groups. Carter alleged that some organizations may have supported or incited political violence.
“The funding of organizations that engage in, support, or incite political violence must not be tolerated,” Carter wrote in the letter.
Soros Groups Investigation Request Cites Research Report
The Soros groups investigation request references findings from a report by the Capital Research Center. According to the report, the Open Society Foundations distributed more than $80 million to certain groups.
The report states that some of these groups allegedly supported activities fitting the definition of domestic terrorism used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
One group named in the report is the Center for Third World Organizing. The organization reportedly received $400,000 from the foundation.
According to the report, the group said it “threw down with people in the streets” during the 2020 George Floyd riots. The report also mentioned affiliates such as the Ruckus Society.
Materials circulated by the Ruckus Society reportedly discussed protest tactics that “may be outside of the law.”
Soros Groups Investigation Request Lists Additional Organizations
The Soros groups investigation request also highlights several other organizations. These groups reportedly received funding from the Open Society Foundations.
According to the report, the foundation gave $1.85 million to Dream Defenders. Meanwhile, $18 million went to the Movement for Black Lives.
Additionally, the foundation reportedly provided $200,000 to Dissenters. These groups were identified in connection with a guide mentioned in the report.
Another organization named in the report is the BlackOUT Collective. The group co-authored a guide that referenced the Ruckus Society and discussed the October 7 attack on Israel.
Meanwhile, the Sunrise Movement reportedly received more than $2 million in grants from the foundation. The group has promoted the “Stop Cop City/Defend the Atlanta Forest” campaign.
Federal authorities have linked that campaign to anarchist activity associated with Antifa.
Soros Groups Investigation Request Sparks Political Debate
The Soros groups investigation request also reflects growing political debate over domestic extremism. Carter warned that the situation could signal increasing violence by far-left groups.
He referenced attacks on facilities operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Carter also cited the September 10 assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA.
“The DOJ cannot ignore this,” Carter said. “Americans deserve to know whether these organizations are funding, organizing, or inspiring domestic terrorism.”
However, the Open Society Foundations rejected the allegations. The organization said its work and grants are peaceful and lawful.
In a statement, the foundation said its grantees must follow human rights principles and comply with the law. It also described the accusations as politically motivated attacks on civil society.
Soros Groups Investigation Request and Federal Investigations
The Soros groups investigation request comes as federal agencies review funding networks linked to extremist activity. Officials say financial tracking plays a key role in the effort.
Kash Patel, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said investigators are tracing financial connections tied to Antifa and related groups.
Patel said the FBI is working with the U.S. Department of the Treasury to track accounts and entities connected to extremist organizations.
“We are following the money,” Patel said while describing the investigation. He added that financial evidence can reveal networks behind organized violence.
Carter said Patel’s comments highlight the importance of the Justice Department investigation. He emphasized that Americans deserve transparency regarding potential funding of domestic violence.
